Korean Langage, Literatures and Creative Writing

Our school provides students with a thorough undergraduate education in the liberal arts centered on the history, theory, and aesthetics of Korean literary genre such as poem, novel, essay, and criticism, in the new expressive methods of film, performance, publication, and advertizement, and in the art of creative writing. A principal of the school is to educate leaders in internationalization of Korean culture. The knowledge and skills developed in the school courses are an excellent preparation for the student's adaptive power in the competitive society and careers in various fields.

Korean Langage and Literature Major [Go to Homepage]

  Our major is composed of Korean Linguistics, Classical Literature, and Current Literature. Korean Linguistics take its principle and history of Korean Language through the manner of research. In classical literature, students study poems, novels, and folklore. In addition, they critique the details of history of Korean literature and have literary history in view. The purpose of studying current literature is to study contemporary writers and their works and the relationship between writer and society and to examine significance of literature to the present age. The knowledge and skills developed in Korean courses will help the students contribute to the internationalization of Korean culture.

  Our major offers students a focused course of creative writing in poetry, fiction, essay, drama, and criticism. The major also offers an opportunity for training in film making, performing, advertising, and publication. Students can maximize their creative power and expression, and prepare balanced fundamentals of literary theory and practical techniques of film treatments, outlines, scripts, and publication through the program's courses.


Activities

Night for Literature and Film
Just before or after the Konyang Festival in May, students read and discuss their own creative writing and meet famous writers.

Academic Festival
The festival, held every November, sums up the academic achievement of the students of Korean Language and Literature Major. The festival has had an Academic Meeting for Lee Chungjun, a Discourse of Feminism, and a seminar on the Problems of Hopelessness in Literature.

Academic Research
This activity by the junior students of the korean language and literature Major aims to do research on dialects, folk customs, and fables every summer vacation. So far students had visited Yeonsan Myon, Sangwol Myon, Eunjin Myon, Bulgok Myon, Yangchon Myon, and Gangyang Eup. Since 2000, they have made research around Buyeo Kun.

Literary Tour
The junior students of the Creative Writing Major track the lives of famous writers every summer vacation. They have made excursion trips to the homes of Lee Munyeol, Shin Dongyeop, Seo Jungju and so on.

Division Activities
Depending upon their tastes, students meet every particular day to discuss literary topics or read their works at the divisions of Linguistics, Folk Customs, Classical Literature, Current Literature, Poem Writing, Novel Writing, Drama Writing, or Advertising.
